The New Gate (2024)

Games are supposed to be one thing above all else: fun. But it is precisely this joy that was taken away from most players of the VRMMORPG “The New Gate” when it was announced that they would be trapped in the virtual world until the game was completed. However, a young man named Shin refused to surrender to his fate and fought until he was finally allowed to take on the final boss, Origin. After a long and bitter battle, Shin gave him the coup de grace and freed all the people trapped in the video game. All’s well that ends well … or does it?

Just as Shin is about to say goodbye to the virtual world for good, he is blinded by a bright light, causing the game’s logo to light up in front of him. As it turns out a short time later, this was not the final message of the VRMMORPG but rather the beginning of a brand new adventure that, once again, takes place in the world of “The New Gate” – only that over 500 years have now passed! Full of despair, Shin must now fear for a second time whether he will ever return home. So, what dangers will the young adventurer have to overcome again? And will he ever be able to return to the real world? A dramatic story about a boy who actually only wants to return home takes its course …

Eigentlich sollten Spiele vor allem eines sein: spaßig. Doch genau diese Freude wurde den meisten Spielerinnen und Spielern des VRMMORPGs »The New Gate« genommen, als verkündet wurde, dass sie nun – bis zum Abschluss des Spiels – in der virtuellen Welt gefangen sind. Doch ein junger Mann namens Shin ließ sich davon nicht unterkriegen und kämpfte so lange, bis er schlussendlich gegen den End-Boss Origin antreten durfte. Nach einem langen und erbitterten Kampf gab ihm Shin den Gnadenstoß und befreite so alle im Videospiel gefangenen Menschen. Ende gut, alles gut … oder etwa doch nicht?!

Denn gerade als Shin sich selbst endgültig von der virtuellen Welt verabschieden will, wird er von einem grellen Licht geblendet, woraufhin der Schriftzug des Spiels vor ihm aufleuchtet. Wie sich kurze Zeit später herausstellt, war dies nicht etwa die Endbotschaft des VRMMORPGs, sondern vielmehr der Beginn eines brandneuen Abenteuers, das abermals in der Welt von »The New Gate« stattfindet – nur, dass mittlerweile über 500 Jahre vergangen sind! Voller Verzweiflung muss Shin jetzt also ein zweites Mal darum bangen, ob er jemals nach Hause zurückkehren wird. Welche Gefahren wird der junge Abenteurer also diesmal überwinden müssen? Und wird es ihm überhaupt gelingen, irgendwann in die reale Welt zurückzukehren?
